Through the Eyes of the Gyrfalcon 2.12.2025–29.3.2026
Photo exhibition Through the Eyes of the Gyrfalcon, opening at the Arktikum Science Centre, depicts how climate change is affecting nature, livelihoods, and the lives of local people in the north from the perspective of a gyrfalcon.
What will Lapland look like in the coming decades when it warms by 4–5 degrees over the next 50 years compared to pre-industrial times?
“Through the Eyes of the Gyrfalcon” describes the nature in the Barents region from the viewpoint of a young gyrfalcon journeying around the north in search of a home. The exhibition combines impressive photographic art with scientific knowledge, providing viewers with visual and information about the effects of climate change.
The gyrfalcon chick was born in Urho Kekkonen National Park near the Russian border. It is the eldest chick of its siblings. How will the gyrfalcon fare? Will it find a suitable mate and an inviting habitat as the climate keeps changing?
Join the gyrfalcon and see how climate change will affect biodiversity and traditional sources of livelihood in the Barents region.
The photo exhibition opening at the Arktikum Science Centre in early December is part of the Finnish Environment Institute’s BARIMS project, which examines the effects of climate change on biodiversity in the Barents region. Experts and researchers from Finland, Sweden, and Norway have participated in the project. The advertising agency Laboratorio Uleåborg has conducted the production and technical implementation of the exhibition. The exhibition has been created in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment of Finland and funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The exhibition is open to the public at Arktikum Science Centre from 2 December 2025 to 29 March 2026.
