The Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland is a science centre and an international research institute. Through high-quality research, science communication, and science education, the centre provides a comprehensive understanding of the Arctic region.

The most visible part of the Arctic Centre for the public is its science centre, which is based on interdisciplinary Arctic research. The Arctic Centre conducts locally, regionally and internationally significant research to address societal and environmental challenges.

Few science centres have the privilege of operating under the same roof with a research institute. This close connection ensures that the science centre’s content is based on current research and that research-based knowledge is communicated to the public in an engaging and accessible way.

At the Arktikum Science Centre, visitors can explore life in the Arctic and learn about the region’s unique characteristics. The science centre inspires people to learn about the Arctic and promotes appreciation for research-based knowledge in society.

Arktikum also houses a library with a special focus on northern issues. The library is open to all.
