Open House Day at Arktikum on Saturday, 12 September 2026

Arktikum will host an Open House event on Saturday, 12 September, in celebration of Rovaniemi Week. Admission to the exhibitions is free from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

At Arktikum, you can explore the Arctic through nature, history and culture. Arctic Opposites is a science-based exhibition by the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland that draws on up-to-date Arctic research. In the science centre, you will explore the Arctic through experiences from far away in space and up close.

In the Northern Ways exhibition you will see and hear the stories of the people and personalities that have had great influence in Lapland. Also on display, is a thorough presentation of information about the animals and nature, as well as an overview of the stages of Lapland’s history from ancient times until present day.

Also on display is Wild Land, a special exhibition by the Regional Museum of Lapland opening on 11 September. The exhibition combines landscape photographs by Anssi Jokiranta with excerpts from the travel journals of Anna Ruohonen. Together, they explore our perceptions of wilderness and its role in the modern world.

Photographer Anssi Jokiranta and author Anna Ruohonen will introduce the exhibition during Arktikum’s Free Admission Day on Saturday, 12 September, at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Exhibitions are open 10 AM – 6 PM.
Arktikum Café is open 11 AM – 4 PM.

Welcome!
