Visitor Record at Arktikum in 2024

The science center and museum Arktikum achieved a record number of visitors in 2024. Nearly 152,000 people attended Arktikum’s exhibitions and events, which is almost 20,000 more than the previous year. About 65 percent of the visitors were from abroad. The largest foreign visitor groups by nationality were from Germany, France, and Italy.

The popularity of tourism in Lapland has also been reflected in Arktikum’s visitor numbers. Arktikum is open year-round, but the busiest months are during the winter season when Rovaniemi sees the most tourists.

– We are proud that Arktikum is one of the must-see destinations for travelers in Rovaniemi. We provide reliable and diverse information about Lapland and the Arctic region, which interests both locals and international tourists,” says Hannele Koskiniemi, CEO of Arktikum-Palvelu Oy.

Arktikum’s science center exhibition was renovated in 2024 and was closed to the public for eight months, but this had little impact on visitor numbers. The renewed science center exhibition Arctic Opposites opened on Finland’s Independence Day, December 6, 2024. The University of Lapland’s Arctic Centre’s new permanent science center exhibition has gained great popularity and, alongside the Lapland Provincial Museum’s exhibitions, is one of Arktikum’s main attractions.
