Responsibility and environmental sustainability at Arktikum
For us, responsibility and environmental sustainability mean concrete actions in our own operations. Arktikum develops its environmental responsibility within the framework of the EcoCompass environmental management system owned by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, which continuously guides Arktikum’s operations towards a more environmentally friendly direction.
We’re committed to saving natural resources and increasing positive environmental impacts on our journey towards a more environmentally sustainable way of operating.
Arktikum has also achieved the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label as a sign of valuable and long-term work towards sustainable tourism. With the help of the environmental program, our sustainability work is more concrete and measurable, which encourages us to communicate it to our customers and partners.
As a popular tourist destination, Arktikum showcases sustainability themes in its exhibitions. We believe in the importance of sustainable tourism and are committed to working with other tourism operators to promote responsible travel.

Sustainability at Arktikum Café
In Arktikum Café we manage, identify and evaluate factors in our operations that have an impact on the environment. Therefore we commit to the following:
- We obey the active environmental laws and regulations.
- We aim to reduce energy consumption on our business premises.
- We improve our recycling and reduce the amount of waste ending up at the waste centre.
- There’s always a vegetarian alternative available in our restaurant.
- We measure customer satisfaction on a regular basis.
- We consider the environmental point of view when making purchases and investments.
- We aim to improve our activity by monitoring and measuring.
- We aim to reduce food waste by optimizing order quantities and encouraging our customers to take only as much food as they can eat.
- If we are left with unsold products, we offer them to consumers at a discounted price through the ResQ Club app.
EcoCompass
We have successfully completed the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation’s EcoCompass environmental program and earned certification.
Sustainable Travel Finland
We have also achieved the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label, demonstrating our valuable and long-term commitment to sustainable tourism. The STF program is Finland’s national sustainability program for the tourism industry, coordinated by Visit Finland.
